WPRD - About Us
Western Plains Regional Development Inc. was founded in August 1999. It is a non-profit community organisation working in partnership with Lachlan Shire Council. Membership includes over 40 individual and business members and we have strong links into all sections of the community throughout the region. WPRD is based at, 18 William Street, PO Box 62, Condobolin. NSW 2877.
In 2001 WPRD Inc. developed a Strategic Plan for the region "Rejuvenating the Heart of the State". The objectives and strategies documented have led to the development of a number of projects, creating jobs and services to support the wider community. Assistance from the Federal Department of Transport and Regional Services, the NSW Department of State and Regional Development and Lachlan Shire Council has been instrumental in implementing many ideas put forward during the community workshops held to develop the plan.
WPRD Inc. established the Condobolin Progress Association and acted as an umbrella for the Tottenham Development group now run through the Tottenham Welfare Council. After establishing a Tourism Development program and the first Heart of NSW brochure (50,000 copies have been distributed throughout Australia) the role of Tourism and Economic Development is now run by Lachlan Shire Council. WPRD Inc. sees it's role as identifying gaps in services and supporting business and community organisations. Although the responsibility for economic development lies with the Shire, WPRD will continue to support their initiatives and identify employment potential and opportunities for project development and funding.
