The Heart of New South Wales is prime wheat, sheep and cattle producing country. Agriculture is the pivotal industry and provides much excitement during harvest time. Get off the beaten track to visit our historic villages and discover the treasures of Australia's most beautiful natural sites. Follow the great explorers out west through the sunlit plains and be prepared to be surprised by the beauty of the Heart of NSW. A natural paradise for campers and fisherman with it's unspoiled inland lakes, bird sanctuaries and the poetic inspiration of the Lachlan River.
Nature's Lakes and Gardens, Camping, Fishing and Bird watching
A land of sweeping plains that harbours the history of Cobb and Co and signs of earlier times, where locals at historic country pubs can tell of heartbreak and hardship, flooding rivers, bumper crops, severe drought and bullock trails. Take a loop off any of the highways and rest at any of our delightful towns.
Breathtaking Lake Cargelligo provides a restful spot for water-skiing, golfing, fishing and camping within easy distance of West Wyalong and Hillston. Here travellers will find a range of accommodation to suit all budgets. The restaurants at the bowling club and sports club offer first class international dishes alongside the plain fare for those who like home cooking when travelling.
The area boasts any number of man-made attractions too - Gum Bend Lake, at Condobolin, a combined Shire and citizens project (completed over a number of years), provides a home for native birds, colourful fish and a great place to picnic or camp, which locals and travellers enjoy all year round. Many folk come from surrounding towns to camp and water-ski in the summer. A holiday site with a difference. The all-green golf course hosts many tournaments throughout the year and is a cool and restful stop for many after work.
At Tottenham, you will find many delights to keep you busy or just wandering....the historic hotel, the inspiring pottery and the cairn showing the actual centre of NSW.
Burcher's Historic Old Bakehouse houses memorabilia and the Bush Chapel has been the scene of a number of important events.
Tullibigeal is where you'll see AFL memorabilia along with an historic camera collection. Throughout the Shire there are wonderfully quiet camping places and friendly golf clubs to help slow down your pace of life. Fishing spots abound and locals will direct you to the scence of the last big catch.
